Dear Patients & Friends:
With the ongoing isolation and hygiene regimen regarding COVID-19, I’m sure many of you are noticing that your hands are becoming increasingly irritated and dry ( I can see it in your massage treatments) – maybe even chapped due to the increased washing from disinfectants in our soap, in an effort to reduce our exposure and spread of this illness.
I wanted to take a moment to remind you & encourage you to also moisturize your hands after washing/sanitizing. When the skins balance is compromised, we lose the natural oils which protect our skin, allowing bacteria and unfavorables an opportunity to become trapped in-between the breaks/cracks in the layers of the skin. This can lead to all types of problems such as infection. Washing your hands is better than sanitizing. I encourage you to wash your hands more than sanitizing, as sanitizing removes everything – INCLUDING the good bacteria we need to help keep our immune system well. By removing the good bacterial, we actually weaken our immune system. Keep the sanitizer for when you can not wash your hands, like after touching the grocery cart at the store.
Keep doing your part – wear protective gloves (or if you can’t find gloves, use the produce bags that are available in the stores) to form a barrier between outside sources and your skin, until you can get home to wash & moisturize your hands.
If you are arriving home from outside of Ontario or Canada, or have been in contact with someone who has been travelling, please do your part – stay isolated to ensure you, your family & your community stay safe. Many people have weakened immune systems and exposure could be detrimental to their health.
I thank you very much for your continued trust, support and patience as we all do what we can to keep each other safe!
